So I went away for a vacation for a couple of weeks. But I'm back, and with more terrain!
GW has been releasing some really great, and cheap (for them) terrain kits of late. I picked up the STC Ryza-Pattern Ruins (Really, there is an STC for ruins? How grimdark!). My first though was they would be great for the Immaterium Sargassum plans we have going, with full knowledge that I can also use them on the rare occasion I actually play 40k.
These were nice and easy to paint quickly. I could have put more detail into them, but I didn't really feel like it!
The first batch were sprayed with a brown through the airbrush. Then, I sponged on various rust colors; mostly Secret Weapon shades, but some Ryza Rust as well. After that, I sponged on some VMC German Camo Black-Brown, then several silver metallics to show where the rust was scratched away.
Really cool, thanks for the tips, I have to try that! Both approaches have quite an appeal!
ReplyDeleteQuite welcome, they're great pieces of terrain and so easy to paint.
DeleteThe power of the STC banks were that they had plans for everything. OF COURSE they have plans for ruins!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see what can be done with such sharply contrasting paint schemes on the same items.
Lol, I can just imagine two cantankerous old tech address discovering the STC pattern for ruins and knowing they've hit the jack out
DeleteNice! I particularly like the first set - Need to try the sponging method you suggested
ReplyDeleteReally great sir!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLooking good. I like both schemes, makes me wonder if one couldn't do the dark green with patches of rust? I did have my eye on that set as well, but I have the Necromunda bulkheads and the Objective box to paint first.
ReplyDeleteI think you absolutely could mix the two. I didn't because I'm lazy 😂
